Travel planning madness is starting to set in
I'll try and spare you all some of the ahhhhhhh. I have made a paltry checklist and put immensely (but recently conceived) ideas like buy a map and look at it onto the list. I bought a mildy expensive gizmo to keep the iPod upright and powered in the car (more on it as I er, road test it). Oh and all of Aeon Flux on 2 UMD for 11 bucks. That and the purple duct tape are probably the worst impulse buys from Wally world. Come on, it is bright purple duct tape™. No, they didn't have pink.

I'm pretty proud of my road foods selections: rice cakes, dried fruits and raisins, peanut butter crackers, applesauces, and tuna snack kits. The quantity I am much less sure about ... The fact that I've no idea how far I can drive in a day, and thus no idea how long it will take me to drive one thousand miles (
1,076 mi – about 17 hours 25 mins
says Google) or how often I'll need to stop is definitely more on the "OMG freaking out" side. This would indeed be somewhat less exciting (in that respect) if I wasn't going alone. In lieu of a co-pilot I'm stuffing the iPod. And trying to avoid fast food on the road. I don't think the planned prohibition against eating in the car will hold up .. and I couldn't bring myself to buy a bunch of bottles of water. I'll have to get gas every ~300 miles anyway.

Say does anybody have any Audible tokens they haven't used?

Re: Ohh is that what that is...

Styrofoam also has hunger in it. ;)

depending on your driving stamina, you can do 1k miles in a day, though not all miles are equal, to be certain. 1k in a day is definitely a LONG day of NOTHING but driving.

I find that about 700 is as much as I ever feel like driving in a single day.

The Boy Scouts of America actually prohibit driving more than 500 miles in a day for any of their functions.

As an experienced mileage driver (and you know this having been in a vehicle with me before), you don't want to do all of that in one day unless money is really tight. Reason: You will be VERY cranky when you get to the end and mistakes happen. Get a good 700 miles in, then nap for awhile. This way you do the last 300 or so in the morning and arrive awake and able to tackle the city when you get there.
As to snacks - nice selection, although somewhat salty, which will increase your drinking. I don't see any dairy so I'd suggest string cheese sticks as an addition.

Yeah I need to plan and prob'lly even rez and place to stop 1/2 to 2/3. I probably could do the whole thing in one leg, but it's not mission critical so there's no point.

Hmm, cheese is a good thought, and yeah I haven't figured out liquids. I really am trying to think roadside snacks rather than eat while driving.

How far north does QT go? :D
